Office of the ATIPP Coordinator

The ATIPP Office is located in the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice has been assigned with the responsibility for the overall administration and coordination of the ATIPPA, which will involve the provision of support and leadership in the interpretation and application of the legislation. In order to help facilitate this mandate, the Department has established an Access to Information and Protection of Privacy (ATIPP) Office. While each public body is required to designate an access coordinator to process and respond to individual access requests, the ATIPP Office is responsible for ensuring that the ATIPPA is properly implemented and that it is administered on a consistent and efficient basis.

This new legislative regime has been designed to create a culture of openness and accountability in the public sector. Government and the ATIPP Office are committed to promoting this new culture and making this initiative a success.

Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Newfoundland & Labrador

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner is an independent office of the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Office is responsible for protecting and upholding access to information and protection of privacy rights under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA). The Office will investigate and mediate complaints, as well as make recommendations to government departments and agencies, boards and municipalities.

Memorial University Information Access and Protection of Privacy Office

Memorial’s IAPP Office assists the university community in complying with the provincial Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and other applicable privacy legislation. The IAPP Office offers advice, develops access and privacy policy, procedures and best practices, and offers education and training to employees and other members of the Memorial community.

Requests under ATIPPA, e.g., general and personal information requests and requests for correction of personal information, are handled at the IAPP Office.

Memorial is the largest university in Atlantic Canada, offering more than 100 degree programs to a student population of 17,000.

CAPAPA

The Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA) is a unique association that is dedicated to the ongoing professional development, education and expanded expertise of individuals who work in the information access and privacy field. Incorporated in June, 2002, CAPAPA has members across Canada in both the private sector and all levels of government.

CAPAPA has been created in response to the growing demand for information access and protection of privacy (IAPP) professionals in the private and public sectors. The Faculty of Extension of the University of Alberta has played a key role in helping to facilitate the creation of this professional association.

Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Optometrists

We offer eyecare & eyewear information for patients, as well as providing an online resource for Doctors of Optometry and other health care providers.A Doctor of Optometry (optometrist) is an independent health care provider, who specializes in the examination, diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures, as well as the diagnosis of related systemic conditions.

Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARNNL)

ARNNL is the regulatory body and professional organization representing all Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners in the province. In pursuit of its vision, Excellence in Nursing, ARNNL exists so there will be public protection, quality health care, and healthy public policy.

Association of Psychologists in Newfoundland Labrador (APNL)

The Association of Psychologists in Newfoundland Labrador (APNL) was formed in 1976 and became incorporated in 1985. It is a voluntary organization dedicated to furthering the discipline and profession of psychology in this province.

APNL supports the discipline of psychology in its broadest form. Most APNL members are registered psychologists, working in post-secondary, healthcare, education or in private practice. Some members may be graduate students of psychology and other members may be teaching psychology at the college or university level and/or engaged in psychological research.

Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NLASLPA)

The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NLASLPA) is a not-for-profit association which represents over 100 Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Audiologists (AUDs) in Newfoundland and Labrador. Through the work of its Executive and Committees, NLASLPA

  • supports the professional needs of its members, including continuing education and representation in national organizations
  • champions the interests of those who require speech, language, swallowing, and hearing services
  • promotes awareness of how SLPS and AUDs contribute to the well-being of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians living with communication and swallowing disorder

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Information Management Association (NLHIMA)

The Newfoundland and Labrador Health Information Management Association (NLHIMA) is a not-for-profit professional organization of health information professionals trained in the collection, analysis and management of health information.

  • To promote the expertise of NLHIMA members as leaders in health information management to support clinical, financial and management decisions in the health sector.
  • To enhance the image of the profession as leaders in the area of data integrity, privacy and confidentiality, health information access and disclosure.
  • To encourage and support the professional development of members of the NLHIMA.

Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries

Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries (NLPL) are operated by the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board, a crown agency of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. There are 96 public libraries in the province which offer books, magazines, newspapers, genealogy information, videos, DVDs, Internet access including Wi-Fi, public computers, early and family literacy programs and various training activities. Public libraries also have computer labs, digital cameras, color printers, scanners and photocopiers in select sites. For those who do not have access to a library, they can still access electronic resources on the NLPL website if they have a computer or they can utilize the Books by Mail Program or Home Reader Services in select areas. Most library services are free. Look under Libraries-Public in the Yellow Pages or visit www.nlpl.ca for more information.
