Optional workshops for the afternoon of Day 2 of this year's event have been finalized and descriptions can be found on the agenda page. These workshops are proudly presented by CAPAPA, and are an excellent add-on to this year's jam packed learning event.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Access & Privacy Workshop 2010 Welcomes Canada's Information Commissioner, Suzanne Legault to the Speaking Faculty.

Suzanne Legault was appointed as Interim Information Commission of Canada effective June 30, 2009. Ms. Legault was Assistant Commissioner for the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada since June 18, 2007, responsible for the Policy, Communications and Operations Branch.

In 2006, she participated in the Federal Public Servant in Residence Program and worked with Dr. David Zussman, Jarislowsky Chair in Public Sector Management at the University of Ottawa.

Ms. Legault began her career in the Public Service in 1996 at the Competition Bureau, where she held increasingly senior positions, including Special Advisor to the Commissioner of Competition.

She then served as Legal Counsel with the Department of Justice, before returning to the Competition Bureau where she was Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Legislative Affairs, then Deputy Commissioner, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs.

Prior to joining the Public Service, Ms. Legault practised law as a criminal defence lawyer from 1991 to 1996, as well as Crown prosecutor from 1994 to 1996. Ms. Legault holds a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Common Law from McGill Law School, which she obtained in 1988.

Newfoundland & Labrador's Offices of the ATIPP Coordinator and Information & Privacy Commissioner, as well as Memorial University’s Information Access and Privacy Protection Office are proud to present the fourth annual Newfoundland & Labrador Access & Privacy Workshop. We will be “Looking Forward” to this newly revamped event on the 17th and 18th of May, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Government Centre in St. John's, NL.

The Steering Committee is also happy to announce that this year's event offers more to the dedicated delegates that have been supporting the events since its inception in the spring of 2007. "Looking Forward" will run for 1 and a half days, with optional workshops available the afternoon of the 18th of May.

This means there will be over 20 interactive sessions available to you this year! Prepared by industry veterans along with real life case studies, attendees will be able to take away practical knowledge and real inspiration to give life to managing information access and privacy protection in their own organizations. Specifically this conference allows delegates to:

• Discuss, identify, and address the many challenges faced by managers of information in public and private sector institutions
• Learn from the wide range of expertise available to the public and private sectors, both internal and external to the ATIPP community
• Closely examine the forthcoming PHIA legislation
• Hear from multiple jurisdictions, including those from the Province, the Federal Government and the municipalities of NL
• Network with and build the Access and Privacy Community in Newfoundland & Labrador
