Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario

The role of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) is set out in three statutes: the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act. The IPC acts independently of government to uphold and promote open government and the protection of personal privacy.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner is appointed by and reports to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Dr. Ann Cavoukian is Ontario's first Information and Privacy Commissioner to be re-appointed for an unprecedented third term. Initially appointed in 1997, her role in overseeing the operations of the freedom of information and privacy laws in Canada’s most populous province has been extended to 2014.

 

Canadian Association of Health Care Privacy Officers (CAHPO) - Website Coming Soon!

CAHPO is a new association created for Canadian health care privacy officers. The objective of the association is to create a forum for privacy officers working in hospitals and other health care organizations to share common issues and concerns, materials and policies, and to discuss and inform the current e-health environment which impacts us and the public we serve. This association will enable its members to leverage expertise within the community and will be an efficient way to resolve the kind of privacy issues and problems that we face every day.

 

Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association (CGNA)

The Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association (CGNA) is a national organization that represents registered nurses who work with older adults in a wide variety of settings across Canada. Our mission is to address the health concerns of older Canadians and the nurses who participate with them in health care.

 

COACH

Canada's Health Informatics Association provides access to the diverse community of accomplished, influential professionals who work passionately to make a difference in health informatics (HI) – the intersection of clinical, IM/IT and management practices as a critical enabler to modernize and better Canadian healthcare. Its 1,500+ members are dedicated to realizing their full potential as professionals and advancing HI. COACH embraces these goals and provides access to the information, talent, credentials, recognition and programs needed for HI in Canada. COACH offers a broad range of services for networking, forums, information and best practice sharing, peer awards, national conferences and professional development, including specialized career resources and the CPHIMS-CA professional certification.

 

ITAC Health

Representing more than 120 Canadian ICT companies that are actively involved in the health sector, ITAC Health promotes the role its members can play in establishing the Canadian healthcare industry as a global leader. ITAC Health serves its members as a collective voice to healthcare professionals, government representatives, researchers, and healthcare consumers, and as a conduit for those stake-holders to leverage the members' ability to facilitate the Canadian healthcare system as a "model of excellence" for healthcare systems around the world. Through collaboration, ITAC Health and its members work with healthcare stakeholders to improve the health of Canadians and the efficiency of the Canadian healthcare system through the implementation of information and communications technologies.

 

Healthcare Magazine

Healthcare Information Management & Communications Canada is published by HC&CC, Healthcare Computing & Communications Canada, Inc., a privately held corporation. The magazine has been serving the Canadian Healthcare Community since 1987. We are proud to be the official journal of COACH: Canada's Health Informatics Association. We have enjoyed this relationship with COACH since 1987. As well we are and have been the Official Journal of the Canadian Healthcare Information Technology Trade Association – CHITTA, the Healthcare Division of ITAC since its inception in 2002.

 

Ontario Nursing Informatics Group (ONIG)

The Ontario Nursing Informatics Group (ONIG) was formed in 1980 and achieved RNAO status as an affiliate group in 1991. ONIG's purpose is to provide a forum for nursing professionals to communicate and disseminate current developments in health care information systems.
