Many Voices, One Sea

The 2011 Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference was held October 25 to 27 at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. This outstanding event brought together a diverse group of government officials, community leaders, First Nations and tribal members, environmental managers, scientists and academics to learn from each other about the state and threats to our shared ecosystem. Over 950 delegates attended.

Conference attendees were able to hear from elected officials, Coast Salish leadership and regional leaders during plenary sessions, and learn from the many scientists, resource managers and academics through oral and poster presentations. The latest scientific information was presented on topics such as land use and growth, contaminants and stormwater, adapting to climate change, and habitat restoration among others. Special events included the Poster Gala, Data Fair, Salish Sea Ecosystem Film Festival, Vancouver Aquarium Reception, Student Awards and Art show.

This successful conference was possible only with the generous support of our sponsors, as well as the dedicated work of a very large group of people. We would like to thank organizing committee members, session conveners, presenters and volunteers for all their contributions. Thanks to everyone for their participation!
